Anonymous – What it’s like dealing with Australia’s mental health system
I’ve tried to access mental health services through my GP. For three months I kept attending appointments to have the long session, which would get me access to mental health services under medicare. Every time, the doctor was too busy. I changed doctors, same issue. The GP’s can deal with physical problems fine, but mental health, that’s not important.

It’s always a struggle
Yesterday was bad. I wanted to end it all but the best I could do was harm myself. It always hits hard when you least expect it and even if you try your CBT, it still sometimes does not help. Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety is more than just feeling stressed or worried. Anxious feelings are a normal reaction to a situation where a person feels under pressure – for example, meeting work deadlines, sitting exams or speaking in front of a group of people. Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia. On average, one in four people – one in three women and one in fve men – will experience anxiety at some stage in their life.
